Our Story...

In 2012, a remarkable story began with the birth of twin boys that would forever change the lives of an artist’s family based in North Carolina.
This family, consisting of a loving mother, a passionate father, and their four little children, embarked on a journey to express gratitude for the gift of life that saved one of their precious twins. When their twins were born, the family faced the tremendous challenge of a health issue with one of their boys. However, through the dedication and care of healthcare providers, they returned home with both boys in perfect health.

The family knew they were blessed, and the desire to give back and make a difference ignited within them.
Their journey to express their gratitude began with a simple yet profound idea: donating wells in Africa.
When the twins reached their first birthday in 2013, the family decided to commemorate the occasion by making this gesture instead of throwing a big party. However, they soon experienced that the cost and time frame of donating a well to Africa as a small family was formidable. During this time, their focus shifted towards realizing that there were many people in need of access to clean water in underdeveloped countries, not only in Africa but also in places like Cambodia.
They began to donate wells sporadically whenever there was a reason for celebration or good news to share. As the children grew, the family’s determination to consistently share their love and make a lasting impact on the lives of those in need became their mission.

The family’s creative spirit came to the forefront when the mother, skilled in the art, started making beautiful flower cupcakes out of simple organic and natural ingredients as a token of appreciation for those who contributed to their fundraising efforts. This act of love blossomed into a sustainable routine, with fundraising events held twice a year during Mother’s Day Season and Christmas Season. These events not only helped raise funds for their noble cause but also created a sense of togetherness and shared joy among their supporters.

In 2023, the family seeks to formalize and expand this small movement under the name “Hands on Well,” which is named by the four children.

Today, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Hands on Well remains committed to building wells and providing clean water to those in need. Every donation goes directly toward these projects, ensuring that your contribution immediately impacts improving lives.

Starting with the Well Project and expanding its mission through art and culture, Hands on Well embraces diverse artistic avenues to drive its mission forward. We believe in the power of creativity to change the world.
